78/365

78 Make a skirt (This one is for mom! DUH!)

So I needed a fuller skirt for activities such as 4-wheeling and motorcycle rides, etc. I didn't really use a pattern, just messed around and made myself a three tiered skirt.

Please excuse the awful picture. I don't photograph well.

And a closer view of the skirt.

Please excuse the awful picture. I don't photograph well.

I have a couple more skirts in the works and I'll update you as I can! Thanks for stopping by!

So technically this one is "attend a parade" but the boys were recently in the Opening Day ceremonies parade. I'll let the pics explain them selves!

55/365

Grow some vegetables! I was just wanting to do something small, I had planted some green beans and some green peppers and wanted the boys to be able to watch them grow. The next thing I know mom came home with cabbage and some other plants and said "Let's get this garden started". Everything just kind of exploded from there!

I will keep you updated on how things go through out the summer! Wish us luck on our harvest!

96/365 - Part 1

One of the things on our Project 100/365 list is to try a new recipe.

Today we made these Root Beer Float Cupcakes! They were so yummy!

Here's the recipe:
1 package 2-layer-size yellow cake mix
3 eggs
1 cup root beer
1/3 cup vegetable oil
4 1/2 teaspoons root beer flavoring
2 teaspoons root beer flavoring
1 12-16 ounce container rich and creamy buttercream frosting
22-24 root beer flavor hard candy barrels
24 bendable straws (optional)

1. Line 22-24 2 1/2 inch muffin cups with paper bake cups; set aside.

2. In a large mixing bowl, beat cake mix, eggs, root beer, oil and the 4 1/2 teaspoons root beer flavoring on low speed until combined. Beat on medium to high speed for 2 minutes more (batter will be thick).

3. Divide batter among prepared muffin cups, filling cups two-thirds full.

4. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 12 to 15 minutes. Cool cupcakes in muffin cups on wire racks for 5 minutes. Remove cupcakes from muffin cups. Cool completely on wire racks.

5. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, stir the 2 teaspoons root beer flavoring into the buttercream frosting.

6. To make frosting look like ice cream (I didn't do this step) chill to firm slightly, then scoop a small amount onto each cupcake. Chill for at least 30 minutes before serving. (At this point, cupcakes can be stored up to three days chilled in an airtight container).

7. Just before serving, top each cupcake with a root beer flavored candy or crush candies and sprinkle over cupcakes. Cut straws in half; discard bottom (straight) halves. Garnish with a bent straw half. Makes 22 to 24 cupcakes.

I found this recipe in a Midwest Living magazine and it just sounded so good; and fortunalely they taste better than they sound! Go ahead and whip up a batch soon! Unless you're one of those weirdos that doesn't like root beer! ; )

Project 100/365

For those of you who are not familiar with my project 100/365, I'll let you know. Every year around December the boys and I sit down and decide on a list of 100 things that we would like to do in the upcoming year. Some of the things are simple and free such as taking a walk or bike ride. Other things are more complex and take little money, like going to see a movie; or in some cases quite a bit of money, like redoing their bedroom. I don't have the list typed up or posted yet this year but if you are interested, that is something I would be happy to do.

Well, here's our official list:

Thanks for stopping by!

1/365 - Part 4

I was able to get a little more done on Project 1/365 this past week. I sanded and painted Isaac's bed! He loves it!

It doesn't show in the picture  (I can post a picture later) but we switched the light fixture out in the boys room too. There was a ceiling fan above the middle bed and it just didn't feel safe especially since the occupant of that bed wouldn't stop playing with it!
Also each of the beds have a hook on the end for a coat/jacket and a book bag. In the summer it could hold sunglasses and a hat too. Multipurpose! Gotta love that!

I love the way the colors pop against the walls and each other! And they all love their new beds! Win-Win all around! There's still plenty to do. A curtain and three special quilts are in the works along with shelving systems for the other two boys as well and the bottom support board on the blue bed needs painted still so stay tuned for more updates!
